Regulations on the Scientific Research Achievement Requirements for the Overseas Students When Applying for Doctorate Degrees in "Management Science and Engineering" (Trial Implementation)
In order to implement the construction of academic discipline and the spirit of postgraduate educational reform, as well as to improve the quality of postgraduate training in the "Management Science and Engineering" doctoral program, the requirements for overseas Ph.D. candidates applying to undertake scientific research are formulated according to the “People's Republic of China’s Regulations for Academic Degrees”, “Temporary Measurement for the Implementation of the People's Republic of China’s Regulations for Academic Degrees”, and "Rules for the Granting of Doctoral and Master Degrees in Nanjing University of Information Science and Engineering". These are combined with the actual conditions of the doctoral program in the School of Management Science and Engineering.
I. Requirements on the Scientific Research Achievements
(1) A doctoral student must fulfil one of the following conditions during the period of his/her doctoral study:
a. Publishing one academic paper categorized as being in the first area of SCI journals, or one academic paper categorized as being in the first (or the second) area of SSCI journals;
b.Publishing two academic papers categorized as being in the second/ the third/ the fourth area of SCI journals, or the academic papers categorized as being in the third or the fourth area of SSCI journals.
c. The journals that the papers have been published should be within the scope of management science and economics, but the main research content should meet the academic requirements of management science.
Ⅱ. Signature of Authors of Articles
1. “The School of Management Science and Engineering, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology” shall be the first signatory unit when doctoral students publish academic papers.
2.A doctoral student shall sign his/her name as the first author (or his/her supervisor as the first author and him/her as the second author) when publishing academic papers during the period of their doctoral studies (after formal enrollment).
3. Applicant for a doctoral degree should have at least one academic paper published in SCI/SSCI journals with the graduate student as the first author.
III. Content Requirements for Achievements
The contents of the academic papers completed by doctoral students themselves should be related to the academic direction of Management Science and Engineering.
IV. Achievement Recognition and Other Requirements
1. These stipulations are applicable to doctoral programs of the first-level discipline of Management Science and Engineering, and to those of the second-level discipline.
2.SCI journals shall include SCIE and SCI journals. SCI journals are classified according to the criteria of the Documentation and Information Centre of the Chinese Academy of Science (JCR) while SSCI journals are classified according to the criteria of Thomson Reuters. SSCI journals (categorized as being of the first and second areas) are equivalent to the first area of SCI journals, and SSCI journals (categorized as being of the third and fourth areas) are equivalent to the second area of SCI journals.
3.The above-mentioned SCIs and SSCIs shall not belong to Open-Access journals, and all Open-Access journals must be recognized by the Academic Committee of the School of Management Science and Engineering.
4.Recognition of different levels of relevant academic achievements shall be determined by the relevant documentation published by the Science and Technology Department and the Social Science Department of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology.
5.Doctoral supervisors shall strengthen their guidance on scientific research for their postgraduates; they are responsible for the authenticity, innovation and academic level of the academic papers submitted by postgraduates.
6.The above-mentioned regulations, interpreted by the School of Management Science and Engineering, shall come into force, starting with Ph.D. students enrolled in 2019.
